The China International Mining Conference 2011, the 13th of its kind, was kicked off in Meijiang Conference and Exhibition Center, Tianjin City, on Nov. 6, 2011. Government officials, experts, representatives of mining industry and financial institutions from more than 50 countries and regions attended this event.

The theme of the current conference is: "Strengthen international cooperation for breakthroughs in mining exploration." There were 23 forums during the conference centered on topics such as sustainable development of mining industry, situation and progress of global mining exploration, mining industry and capital market, mine environment, green mining industry, etc. The Datong Coal Mine Group took part in an exhibition of the China International Mining Conference 2011. The group's pavilion showcased its development through photos, texts, LED panels and other tools.

Zhang Youxi, chairman of the group, made a keynote speech titled "Be Friendly to Natural Resources and Environment to Realize Sustainable Development" at the Mining Industry Development Forum.

He said that mining enterprises must build up a concept of scientific development, and handle the industry-nature relationship properly.

Zhang noted that a kind of reverence is required when making use of natural resources. In the past few years, the Datong Caol Mine Group has creatively put forward a brand new scientific development idea of "black coal, green exploring; circular economy, clean mining; high-carbon industry and low-carbon development." The group has set up the Tashan Circular Economic Park, which has the most completed industrial chain within the nation's coal industry. There are 13 projects in the park, including "two mines, ten factories and one railway", together to form three completed industrial chains of circular economy: "coal-electricity", "coal-building materials" and "coal-chemical industry". It has built a closed cycle of materials and utilized natural resources to the full. The Datong Coal Mine Group has also independently developed the world's first fully-mechanized sublevel caving technology for extra-thick coal seam. The resource recycle rate in the Tashan Circular Economic Park has reached 94 percent, an internationally advanced level, Zhang said.

Be friendly to the environment, pay attention to courtesy. The Datong Coal Mine Group has implemented China's largest project for mine environmental protection and mine environmental restoration by greening large areas in an all-round way in recent years. And it is currently building the Jinhuagong National Mining Park, the first of its kind in China. The group believes that as long as it shows reverence and respect to natural resources and environment, it can achieve a harmonious relationship between humankind and nature, and start more and more energy-efficient and environment-friendly mining enterprises.
